A Gift Guide for the Advanced Painter

by | Nov 23, 2020

As the holiday season is upon us, I’ve decided to put together a Christmas gift guide filled with my favorite items for the advanced painter. Of course, these gifts would also be great for birthdays, anniversaries, or just to splurge on a treat for yourself, too.

After the year we’ve had, I think we all deserve to treat ourselves a bit! Check out the gift guide and find your favorites. Print it out and circle what you want to drop some hints to your spouse or family members this season!

This post includes some of my affiliate links for your shopping convenience. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

First – My Favorite Online Shopping Tip!

Before we begin, here’s a quick tip to help you save money! I know we’re all doing a lot more online shopping right now. And that includes buying all those Christmas gifts!

So I signed up for Rakuten to help save money! Every time I shop online at a participating store, I earn cash back AND learn about the latest coupon codes. And I don’t even have to do anything differently! I just signed up, added the extension, and shop online like I always do, and Rakuten keeps track of all of my savings and banks the cash back for me!

Sign up now, and you could earn $40 right away if you use my affiliate link. Plus you’ll earn 1-10% cash back if you shop online at stores like Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, JoAnn’s..and lots more.

Now onto the gift guide for that advanced painter:

1) Refillable Paint Pen Blanks

Refillable Paint Pens Blanks

Have a paint color you’re wanting to use as a pen? These refillable paint pen blanks from Amazon are perfect for just that!

These pens are great to add details, hand letter, or touch up a door hanger. Check out this blog post where I used paint pens on the lettering and details of my fall pumpkin truck!

2) Lettering Workbook

Hand Lettering for Beginners Workbook

Danielle Stringer from Imperfect Dust was featured on our blog a little while back. She taught us how to hand letter a door hanger. Danielle does such a great job breaking hand lettering down so I wanted to include her workbook on my gift guide for the advanced painter!

You can find the Hand Lettering for Absolute Beginners Workbook here in my Amazon affiliate shop. I’d also encourage you to check out the blog post that Danielle wrote for us a little while back as well.

3) Designer Brush Sets

Tamara's Paint Brush Collection

One thing is for sure when you’re painting, you can never have too many paintbrushes. And now that you’re more experienced at painting, you probably have a few favorite styles of brushes.

So, now it’s time to expand your paintbrush collection. Add one of these specialized brush sets  to give yourself variety to have the perfect style of brush, in the perfect size, for whatever technique or hand lettering you want to do. I use my filbert brush sets and my round tip brushes almost every time I paint, for example!

Not sure where to start with so many brush options? I have an entire blog post dedicated to choosing the right paint brushes when painting your door hanger!

4) Mixed Media Pad

Mixed Media Pad to Practice Art

I absolutely love my mixed media paper notebook!! This is the perfect place to practice your painting techniques and hand lettering skills without messing up a door hanger you’ve already cut. Keep all of your ideas and practice techniques organized in one place!

I have used this notebook on facebook to show how to create an ombré paint background and show the difference between filbert and round tip paintbrushes for hand-lettering.

If you want to see how I have used my mixed media paper notebook, check out this blog post on paint brushes and hand lettering!

5) She Was Born With It T-Shirt

I love this shirt as a gift idea for the advanced painter! As an advanced painter, you might not be aware of the impact you have on those around you and how you inspire them to create.

Also as an advanced painter you might be unaware of the money your talent can make for you. If you’re ready to take your hobby to the next level, check out my blog post on when to know if your hobby is becoming a business.

6) Art Portfolio to Use as Stencil Storage

I don’t know about you, but I love using stencils when I paint! It creates a cohesive and clean look across my door hanger. This art portfolio from Amazon is a great way to organize my stencils so I can see them all and easily reach for what I need!

Speaking of stencils, check out this blog post I wrote that gives some quick tips for painting with stencils!

And don’t forget you can always find more of my favorite stencils to build your collection right from my shop! From intricate patterns to fancy lettering for your favorite phrases, stencils are the best way to elevate your door hangers to the next level!

7) Wooden Paint Brush Holder

Wooden Paint Brush Holder

Once you’ve been painting a while, you tend to gather a lot of favorite brushes. But it doesn’t matter how many paint brushes you have if you can’t find any of them! This wooden paint brush holder keeps me organized.

I know anytime I need a paint brush this is where it will be. I can’t recommend this enough for organizing your paint station or craft room. You can find it here in my Amazon affiliate shop.

8) Template Club Year Membership
