My Fall Front Porch Decor

by | Sep 28, 2020

You all already know how much I love painting door hangers! But I also really love decorating the rest of my house too. And planning my front porch decor is one of my favorites, because I get to showcase my favorite door hangers AND add lots of cute accent pieces! So today I’m showing how I created an entire fall porch decor theme based around my buffalo plaid “Happy Fall, Y’all” pumpkin door hanger. Come on up and take a look around!

Fall Porch: welcome sign, happy fall sign, mat

The Buffalo Plaid Fall Door Hanger Inspiration

If you follow me on Facebook, you know how excited I was to kick off our fall door hanger paint challenge with this cute pumpkin door hanger! The stacked pumpkins were so much fun to paint. And the black and white buffalo plaid is so trendy right now!

As much as I love fall decor, I get tired of always painting the same orange and green autumn designs. Enter something new and fresh – black and white buffalo plaid! This pattern looks sharp and really grabs your attention.

(Speaking of grabbing your attention – did you notice my little chalk artist’s contribution? That’s the mom life, right??)

Fall Porch Decor – It’s All About the Details!

Once I had my door hanger I knew I wanted to really highlight the buffalo plaid.

Have you all seen this decor hack with the layered welcome mats? I love this trend!

It was a perfect way to add a touch of buffalo plaid so I started with a big black and white rug (like this one from Wal-Mart).

Then on top, I layered this adorable pumpkin welcome mat from Crushin’ on Vinyl!

It Isn’t Fall Without Pumpkins on the Porch!

Next, I grabbed my leaning “Welcome” wood sign and changed out the accessory piece to a monogrammed pumpkin that I had painted.

Here’s my trick – I use my favorite door hanger designs – just in a smaller size – for my welcome sign attachments! It gives me endless options for the welcome sign, like this personalized pumpkin.

In fact, this leaning wooden welcome sign has been a big hit. I get so many compliments on mine.

I recently wrote a blog post to show you all how to DIY your own welcome sign. They’re so versatile! I love having another way to use my painted wood designs.

After all – I only have one front door to decorate every season! And where’s the fun in that?

Rounding Out the Fall Porch Decor Details

Next I just needed some details next to the door.

So I picked up some wooden crates (similar to these), and stained them to match the wooden welcome sign.

Then, I topped them off with these sweet little pumpkin topiary stacks from Walmart!

You could DIY some painted pumpkins like these, too!

Finally, I grabbed a potted yellow mum and tied some buffalo plaid ribbon around the pot. Quick and easy!

But, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to add one more personalized detail – the pumpkin spike!

I used my pumpkin design again to create a small wooden accent piece. This time, I attached it to a pick and popped it down into the potted mum.

So don’t forget – as much as we all love our door hangers, your blanks and templates can also be used for all sorts of creative designs!

Speaking of blanks, I recently painted a pumpkin truck door hanger blank on my Facebook page four different ways! Check out this blog post to see how I painted this same blank something different, four times!

My Front Porch is Ready for Fall!

One of the best things about this fall porch decor is that I can put it up now, just in time for October.

I might add a few spooky details for trick-or-treaters on Halloween.

But then I could keep everything up through November and Thanksgiving, too! It just needs a few harvest or turkey accents to make it last all of the autumn season.

Of course, if you’re like me, you’ll probably get a million new ideas and change it up every few weeks!

You could always add one of these pumpkin porch sitters in coordinating details. Or try a pumpkin bunting banner like this one!

And feel free to take a look at some of other favorite fall door hanger designs for more inspiration!
