1. Hold a Flash Sale
Do you have a lot of unsold door hangers laying around? That’s a perfect time to hold a flash sale! A flash sale is a terrific way to sell more door hangers during a business slump.
Start by giving each door hanger a number and a price. Then announce you’ll be having a flash sale. Choose a date and time and promote it. During the sale, have viewers comment “sold” on the number they want to purchase. The first comment gets it!
A flash sale is great because it creates buzz and excitement among your viewers. Once the comments start flowing and door hangers start selling, others watching will want to jump in and participate in the fun! That equals more sales!
For more guidance on how to price your door hangers, check out this blog post where I talk all about pricing.
To learn more about all aspects of door hanger sales, make sure you check out my eBook, available in our online store. In it, I tell you everything you need to know to get started – or get better at – selling painted door hangers.
2. Take Pre-Orders
Taking pre-orders is a great way to create buzz and demand for a particular door hanger design. You can take pre-orders for a limited time and offer a discount if purchased during that timeframe.
The great thing about pre-orders is you can get paid before you even make the item and then you can batch paint the door hangers. Customers are happy because they can get a lower price on the item than if they bought it outside of the pre-order time frame. Everyone is a winner!
I mentioned batch painting. When you are selling your door hangers, batching is the best way to save time and gain efficiency. I talk about about batching a lot because it makes such a difference for me and it will for you as well. These blog posts, where I talk about cutting door hangers in bulk and batch painting are terrific resources for you.
Tips and Tricks: When you are batch painting, it can be difficult to find the room to set all of the door hangers out to dry. Check out this brilliant hack – pizza racks! As you can see, this rack takes up little space in my craft room, but lets me dry an entire batch of door hangers! You can find the one I use here in my Amazon store.
3. Upsell Your Current Customer
It is WAY easier to get your current customer to make another purchase than it is to try to acquire a new customer. Let’s say someone bought a fall door hanger from you. What else you could sell them to go along with that “theme?” Perhaps a painted pillowcase, yard stake, porch sign attachment, small wooden sign for a bookshelf, or a banner to hang on their fireplace mantle.
You’ll make more sales and the customer will be excited to have items that all complement each other. You could even offer a discount if they purchase multiple items!
4. Ask Them What They Want
When in doubt, just ASK your audience what they want to see more of! It could be in the form of an Instagram story poll, a Facebook post, a Facebook Live, or through email! I LOVE interacting with y’all through Facebook Lives. Make sure you follow the Southern A-Door-nments Decor Facebook page so you don’t miss out on anything!
More often than not, your customers KNOW what they want and will tell you. Odds are, they are out there looking for something specific and just can’t find it.
Your audience will be happy to tell you what they want – and excited that you asked. We recently introduced our farm animal door hangers. People loved them all, but they went crazy over this adorable floral piggy. They wanted to see more of her -and wanted me to paint her live on Facebook. So I did.
5. Offer a Deal
Everyone likes to feel like they got a good deal on a purchase. Helping your customers feel like they got a good deal from you can help you sell more door hangers and grow your business. There are so many ways to do this!
- BOGO (buy one get one) offer
- Percent off purchase
- Refer a friend bonus
- Coupon to use toward next purchase
- Free shipping over a certain amount (checkout this blog post to save on shipping)
- Eligible for a giveaway drawing after purchasing
Get creative and have fun with this!
