If you’ve ever said, “I’m just not artistic…” you are not alone. That belief is the very thing holding so many women back from discovering something they would absolutely love.
But community is often the thing that pulls them out of that mentality – not talent. Let’s talk about why having the right people by your side changes everything.
The Biggest Lie We’ve Been Told About Creativity
Most of us grew up thinking creativity was something you were born with. You either had it…or you didn’t. And over time, it starts to diminish that creative spark.
You sit on the sidelines. You watch others create. You convince yourself it’s “not for you.”
But after years of teaching women how to paint door hangers, I can tell you this with full confidence: Talent is not what makes someone stick with painting. Community is.
What Happens When You Try to Paint Alone
Painting by yourself can feel intimidating. Every little mistake feels bigger. Every comparison feels heavier. And the moment something doesn’t go perfectly? You’re ready to quit.
Sound familiar? When you’re alone, there’s no one there to say:
- “It’s okay! Keep going.”
- “That actually looks great.”
- “You’re learning, not failing.”
You have to cheer yourself on, and with the weight of life’s stressors, that can be a heavy burden to carry. Without that support, it’s easy to walk away before you ever give yourself a real chance.
Why a Painting Community Changes Everything
Now let’s flip that. When you paint with other women, something shifts.
Mistakes feel normal instead of embarrassing. Progress feels exciting instead of scary.
And you start to realize that you’re not behind. You’re just learning.
Community gives you permission to be a beginner, which increases your confidence as you grow. Because that feeling doesn’t come before you start, it comes because you start.
Real Growth Doesn’t Come From Talent
I’ve seen so many women with zero experience walk into their first project nervous, shaky, and full of doubt.
“I can’t even draw a stick figure.”
“Please don’t judge mine.”
“Yours will look better than mine.”
And then? They stay. They keep showing up. They keep trying. They keep improving.
All because they felt safe enough to continue. It had nothing to do with talent!
- A place to ask questions without feeling silly
- Encouragement when things don’t go perfectly
- Support to try again instead of quitting
- A reminder that everyone starts somewhere
And that’s where the real magic happens!
Painting Is About More Than the Final Project
Yes, you’ll create something beautiful. But painting is so much more than that.
It’s:
- Slowing your mind down after a long day
- Doing something just for you
- Creating with your hands instead of scrolling your phone
- Rediscovering a part of yourself you thought was gone
And maybe most importantly…
Realizing you’re capable of more than you thought.
So even when you think you “aren’t talented enough,” a community gives you:
- Encouragement
- Support
- A step-by-step path
- People who remind you that you belong
When you have that, talent grows naturally, confidence follows, and painting becomes something you look forward to!
