Have you ever stared at a blank wood cutout and thought…“What if I mess this up?”
Or “What if I’m just not creative enough to do this project?”
If that sounds like you, friend…you’re not alone. So many women inside our Painter’s Clubhouse have felt the exact same way when they first started. And honestly? I’ve been there too. That blank wood piece can feel a lot like a blank canvas. It’s exciting, but also intimidating!
But confidence doesn’t come before you paint. It comes AS you paint. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your creativity is to just start…even when you’re uncertain.
If that’s the position you find yourself in today, keep reading, or watch the video below, to see a few different ways you can build your confidence, even as a beginner.
Tip #1: Always Remember That It’s Just Paint
Any time you’re painting, it’s important to remember that it’s just paint. You can always paint over it! Inside the Clubhouse, we say this all the time — and it’s not just a cute motto. It’s a mindset shift that makes all the difference.
Take Angie, one of our sweet Clubhouse members. She had just finished painting her door hanger and reached for a can of clear spray sealer to protect her work. Only, it wasn’t sealer…it was black spray paint! Oh no!
She accidentally sprayed her entire finished door hanger with black paint. But you know what Angie did? She laughed it off and kept it moving. She just sanded over the mistake and tried again!
Listen, even the most experienced painters make mistakes. The difference is, they’ve learned to treat those moments like lessons — not failures.
Tip #2: Celebrate the First Win
One of the best ways to build your painting confidence is to follow a beginner-friendly tutorial. Just grab a template, hit play on a step-by-step video, and paint along. And no matter how it turns out, celebrate that first win, even if it’s not perfect.
Painting isn’t just about the final product — it’s about how it makes you feel while you’re creating it. If it brought you peace, that’s a win. If you learned something, that’s a win.
And the best part? Every time you finish a project, you’re building your skills and your confidence.
Tip #3: Surround Yourself with People Who Believe in You
The biggest confidence booster of them all? Community! When you’re surrounded by others who believe in you and cheer you on as you grow, it’s hard not to celebrate your progress and feel inspired to keep going.
That’s why we created the Painter’s Clubhouse — learn, grow, and share your creativity without fear or judgment.
Just see what one of our members, Desiree, said about our community!
That right there? That’s the heartbeat of our community. Not everyone feels comfortable posting their painted projects on public platforms. The internet can be full of negativity. But not here. Inside the Clubhouse, you’re encouraged, celebrated, and lifted up every step of the way.
You’ll have a safe space to:
- Share your first (or 50th!) painted door hanger
- Ask for feedback from kind-hearted women
- Get inspired by others who are learning too
- Be reminded that you’re not alone
Painting by yourself is one thing. Painting in a group that lifts you up? That changes everything!
