Why So Many Women Quit Creative Hobbies Too Soon
One of the biggest mistakes women make when starting a painting hobby is comparing their schedule to someone else’s.
Maybe you see someone finishing projects every week and think you’re falling behind. Maybe you only have a few minutes here and there and wonder if it’s even worth getting your supplies out. Or maybe your life is so busy that you only get a chance to paint during holidays or school breaks.
Here’s what we want you to remember…
Creative hobbies aren’t a race. Painting isn’t about productivity. It’s about giving yourself permission to create, relax, learn something new, and reconnect with a part of yourself that often gets pushed aside while you’re taking care of everyone else.
Painting Style #1: The Buddy Painter
Buddy Painters thrive on connection. You enjoy the painting itself, but what really keeps you coming back is the community.
You love live tutorials, paint nights, workshops, and chatting with other women who understand exactly what it’s like to start a project thinking, “I hope this turns out okay.”
Helpful Tip for Busy Buddy Painters:
Don’t wait for motivation. Instead of saying, “I’ll paint when I have time,” try planning your painting sessions around community opportunities.
Inside the Painter’s Clubhouse, many members find that simply knowing other women are painting alongside them helps them stay consistent and enjoy the process more.

Painting Style #2: The Binge Painter
Binge Painters have a different rhythm. You may go weeks without touching a paintbrush, but when a free Saturday, holiday break, or vacation week arrives, you’re ready to dive in headfirst.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Some women recharge creatively through long, uninterrupted painting sessions.
Helpful Tip for Busy Binge Painters:
Prepare before your creative window arrives. One of the biggest frustrations for Binge Painters is spending half their precious free time searching for supplies, organizing paint colors, or deciding what project to start.
Before your next free weekend:
- Choose your project
- Print your templates
- Gather your supplies
- Make a list of any materials you need
A little preparation beforehand means more time doing the fun part when your creative window finally opens.
Painting Style #3: The Bit-by-Bit Painter
Bit-by-Bit Painters are masters of small moments. You may paint for 15 minutes after dinner, or 20 minutes before bed. Many women assume they need several uninterrupted hours to make progress, but that’s simply not true. Those little sessions add up!
Some beautiful projects are completed one small painting session at a time.
Helpful Tip for Busy Bit-By-Bit Painters:
Make starting as easy as possible. When your painting space is already set up, you’re much more likely to use those small pockets of time. But that doesn’t mean you need a dedicated craft room.
A small rolling cart, a corner of your dining table, or a portable workstation can work beautifully. The less setup required, the easier it becomes to sit down and paint.
A Favorite Time-Saving Supply Tip
One of my favorite tips for women who paint in shorter sessions is using an ice cube tray with a snap-on lid for paint storage. This simple trick helps keep paint fresh between sessions, making it easy to stop and start whenever your schedule allows.
Instead of wasting paint or remixing colors every time you sit down, you can pick up right where you left off. Small conveniences like this can make a big difference when you’re trying to fit creativity into a busy life.
Remember: Painting for Stress Relief Counts Too
Sometimes we put pressure on ourselves to “accomplish” something every time we sit down to paint. But not every painting session needs to end with a finished project.
Sometimes the purpose is simply to breathe, unplug, and have fun!
Many women inside the Painter’s Clubhouse tell us that painting has become their version of reading a book before bed, taking a walk, or enjoying a quiet cup of coffee in the morning.
The Real Goal Isn’t More Productivity
Whether you’re a Buddy Painter, Binge Painter, Bit-by-Bit Painter, or a combination of all three, the goal isn’t to become the world’s most productive painter. The goal is to create a hobby that fits your season of life.
A hobby that brings joy. A hobby that helps you relax. A hobby that reminds you that you’re capable of creating beautiful things, even if you’ve spent years believing you’re “not artistic.”
Because the truth is, creativity isn’t reserved for a select few. It’s something that can be learned, practiced, and enjoyed at your own pace.
