It’s Easy to DIY This Hot Cocoa Door Hanger!
Once you’ve gathered up your supplies, all you have to do is paint! I’ve made it easy to get started from my online shop. There you can choose either the ready-to-paint MDF blank, or the printable template and digital cut file so that you can cut your own door hanger at home. (Not sure what the difference is? I explained it in this recent post!)
If you choose to paint the blank, like I did in my video, you can see that it’s etched with all of the design details that are laser-cut right onto the surface. That way, you can paint the background on the whole surface and still see the lines underneath where you need to fill in the details. If you’re using the DecoArt Americana paints that I recommend, you can even paint the white right on top of the darker colors! The white snowflake and marshmallows will pop on top of the darker teal and brown background.
The Finished Piece:
While I was painting this one, I challenged myself to use some shading to give it a three-dimensional look. I used several different brushes to get the different effects – you can see them all in this photo. The “True Blue” paint worked well to blend with the “Bahama Blue” paint that I used for the coffee cup.
Of course, if you want even more of a 3D effect, this would be a perfect design to add some puffy white paint or glitter on top!
