What’s the Difference Between a Facebook Page and a Facebook Group?

Let’s start by discussing the difference between a Facebook Page and a Facebook Group. A Facebook Page is similar to a Facebook profile that your friend or probably even you have, except it’s for a business or organization. A Facebook Page is visible to everyone on Facebook. People or fans, like a Facebook page so that they can see the page updates in their feed. A Facebook Group, while similar to a Facebook page, typically offers more connection as the people or members of the group often have many things in common.

For example, we have a Facebook Page for Southern A-Door-nments Decor, but then we have a few Facebook Groups for our fans to join and become a member of as well.  Painter’s Clubhouse (for people who want to learn to grow their skills) and Paint 2 Profit (for people who want to grow a door hanger business) are Facebook Groups for our paying members. We also offer a free Facebook Group called Door Hanger Painting Tips for anyone that likes to paint door hanger..

How Should I Use My Facebook Page for My Business?

A Facebook Page for your business allows you to build a relationship with your audience while also promoting your business. A Facebook page is a great place to promote your website and show the audience what you have to offer.

The Facebook Page is also where your audience will get to know you, kind of like a first date. On my Facebook Page, I go live every Tuesday to paint a door hanger and every Friday for Friday Fab Five, where I talk about my five favorite products from the week before. These are great opportunities to get to know my audience and also learn what they like to see from me.

How Should I Use a Facebook Group for Business?

If your audience enjoys your page they may decide to join some groups that you have.  For me, this means that if my audience enjoys the painting tutorials I do during the week, they may pay to join Painter’s Clubhouse. Painter’s Clubhouse is a membership where I teach more in depth tutorials and techniques to members in our Painter’s Clubhouse group.

When using Facebook for your business, you could have a variety of Facebook Groups associated with your Facebook Page. For example, maybe you sell a variety of products or services. You could have a Facebook Group for the different types of products or services that you provide.

Are You New to Using Facebook for Your Business? Where Should You Start?

If all the talk about using Facebook intimidates you, take it one step at a time. Personally, I recommend starting with a Facebook Page first. You can create a Facebook Group for your business later once you have built a community on your Facebook page. You don’t have to have both, but if you’re going to just have one I definitely recommend the Facebook Page as you work to grow your brand.
