On one hand, it seems like summer has just begun. But on the other hand, some of us are already thinking about back-to-school! Crazy, right? It seems like the pools have finally just opened and it wasn’t that long ago that school buses were making their afternoon runs through the neighborhood!
But, the weeks of cookouts and camping will fly by, and a new school year will be starting before we know it. That means it’s time to plan out your back-to-school decor! So, I wanted to share a few of my favorite school door hangers for August and September. I hope these inspire you, too! Don’t forget to check out my online shop to find all of the resources that you need to get started with your own DIY back-to-school door hanger!

LOVE Back to School
This fun door hanger has our popular “LOVE” design, but this one features an apple and pencils just for back-to-school decor! The bright primary colors remind me of fresh crayons and clean, bright folders, but it would be easy to customize with your own color palette. The apple space is perfect for personalizing with a name or monogram, too! It’s easy to DIY when you purchase the ready-to-paint blank form, or the printable template and cut file (for SVG, PDF, etc), right from my shop!
Welcome to My Class!
One of my favorite things about these back-to-school designs is that they make great classroom decor, too! Every teacher loves having a fresh, new look for students for the new school year, and these are so much fun to customize for the classroom door, bulletin board, or walls. This “Welcome to Class” notepad and pencil design with the teacher’s name is a great example. Whether you’re setting up your own classroom, or are looking for a gift idea for your favorite teacher for fall, these personalized painted wooden signs are perfect. Of course, you could easily change up the text and use it for your front porch decor, too! Find this blank here and the printable template and digital cut file here.
Polka-Dot Teacher’s Pencil
This cute polka-dot painted pencil design is another popular style I’ve created, and again you can customize it with whatever colors fit your teaching or front door decor. Hint – I love using sponge pouncer brushes to paint polka dot patterns. I have some of my favorites listed in my amazon shop, including some new ones that I mentioned on my first Friday Fab Five post! Ready to try to DIY it? Grab the blank or printable template and digital cut file!
Polka-Dot Green Apple for Teacher
The apple is such a classic symbol of back-to-school, and this polka dot apple door hanger is no exception! It’s a flexible design too, because it can take you right into your fall and autumn harvest decor, through September and October. As much as I love making fresh new signs that I can change out often, sometimes it is nice to have something simple that can stay up for a while without looking dated or out-of-season! Find the blank here or the printable template and digital cut file here, and you’ll be crafting your own DIY painted project before you know it!
If you didn’t find exactly what you wanted, or if you want to be creative and go with your own design, here are a few more designs that have blanks and printable templates in my shop!
- Apple & Books blank or template and digital cut file
- School Bus blank
And don’t forget, you can order the blanks in several different sizes. They can come small enough for an ornament, medium sized for a sign or wreath attachment, or full-size as a door hanger. There are lots of options to customize and create your own unique painted decor!
I hope you’ve found something that inspires you to paint and create, and I’m sure I’ll see you in the back-to-school shopping aisles soon!
