Door hangers aren’t just for your front door or back porch. There are so many fun and unique ways to display your favorite projects throughout your home. Whether you’re just starting with decorative door hangers or you’re deep into the DIY scene, there’s no rule that says your painted creations have to live only on your front door.
In today’s post, we’re diving into some of the most creative ways our Painter’s Clubhouse members are displaying their DIY door decorations — from pantry doors to classrooms, nurseries to chicken coops (yes, really!). Keep scrolling to get a look at all the fun!
DIY Door Decorations Around the House
Let’s start by thinking beyond the entryway. Your DIY door decorations can be proudly displayed throughout the entire house!
In the Kitchen
Clubhouse member Lauren Martin displayed a pair of gingerbread cookie designs on each pantry door — complete with a coordinating Christmas-themed tiered tray elsewhere in the kitchen!

There are so many designs to try in this area of your home, especially sweet ones like “Grandma’s Kitchen” or a Mother’s Day, Christmas, or Thanksgiving design. These make heartfelt seasonal door hanger ideas and thoughtful gifts! (You can see some of those ideas in our shop here!).

In the Laundry Room
Why not add some personality here, too? A fun sign that says something like “All change left in pockets will be considered a tip” can make doing laundry so much more enjoyable!

In Your Craft Room
I have a custom “Tamara’s Craft Room” design with splattered paint details, and another on my pegboard that says “Dream hard, work harder.” DIY door decorations can double as inspiration when they’re visible in your favorite creative spot, like your craft room!

In the Bathroom or Bedrooms
Cute signs like “Splish Splash, Taking a Bath” are always a hit. Or, you can create a custom bedroom sign for your kids — my boys have oversized Xbox controller door hangers with their names, and my daughter, Charlie switches hers out with the seasons!

In the Nursery
Personalized DIY door decorations are perfect for celebrating newborns. Create a name sign with birth details or a sweet floral design that ties in with the nursery theme. These make beautiful gifts, too!

At School or Work
Let’s take it a step further and think outside the home.
Teachers, nurses, and school staff love using door hangers to brighten up their classrooms or office spaces. Several Clubhouse members have shared designs hanging on classroom doors, hallway bulletin boards, and even the school nurse’s area!

One member even used our “Faith Over Fear” design as a comforting piece in a hospital window, showing how these DIY door decorations can spread encouragement and hope wherever they’re hung.

Seasonal Swaps for Your Mantel or Shelves
Any door hanger enthusiast will tell you they have a design for every season…which means plenty of ways to decorate a mantel or shelf!
If you don’t have a traditional fireplace, grab a decorative shelf and style it as your seasonal mantel, with your door hanger design. Add a matching banner, some mini frames with swappable attachments, or a festive tiered tray.

DIY door decorations make the perfect jumping-off point for an entire themed space. Just a few coordinated colors and textures pull it all together!
Even the Coop Deserves Decor
Yes, you read that right — chicken coops need love, too!
One of our Painter’s Clubhouse members shared a pic of a chicken-shaped door hanger on her coop. And I’ve painted one on Facebook Live that said “Welcome to the Fluffy Butt Hut.” It’s been a fan favorite because it’s a simple addition that adds so much joy!

So…Where Will You Hang Yours?
DIY door decorations aren’t just for doors. They’re for walls, shelves, pantries, nurseries, classrooms, and even chicken coops. Now that you’ve seen several different ways to use them, I would love to see what you end up doing!
