Painting the Snowy Winter Attachments
Step #1: Start With the Snowman Head
Start by adding sweet pink cheeks using Poodle Skirt Pink. A filbert brush works best for creating easy circles! Use a lighter touch and an angled tip brush for smaller details like the nose to avoid too much paint buildup.
Next, we add Alizarin Crimson polka dots to the snowman’s hat. Don’t stress if you don’t have a stencil for this part — you can trace circles using a paint bottle and pencil for a quick DIY dotting trick!
To add dimension and contrast, I outlined mine with Mystic Teal — a rich 2025 DecoArt shade — but if you don’t have it, Jewel Green is a good backup!
Step #2: Paint the Cocoa Mug
This little cup might be my favorite! Use a mix of Poodle Skirt Pink and white for the base color, then add darker pink sprinkles for a playful finish. If you want to outline or define areas, grab a paint pen to add final touches. You can also skip the pen and do thin detail work with a liner brush.
Want to get fancy? Try adding faux marshmallows, sprinkles, or even a resin “hot cocoa” effect if you’re feeling adventurous!
Step #3: Paint the Ice Skate
The ice skate is pure winter nostalgia! Start with a base coat and add snowflakes using a stencil and sponge pouncer.
Make sure your sponge is almost dry with very little paint on it — this helps avoid the dreaded stencil bleed! If you do have a blob moment (it happens to us all), don’t panic. Just wipe it off with a damp paper towel and touch it up.
Then, add the slate gray as the blade base and layer DecoArt Media Metallic Silver on top for shine. You could also use silver foil for a wow factor!
For the fluffy cuff, consider adding faux fur for extra texture. You can glue it right onto the top edge for a fun 3D look!
Displaying Your Winter Attachment Pieces
Once your pieces are dry, it’s time to show them off!
Attach a metal disc (I like the 1-inch size so it can fit on most candlestick or attachment bases) to the back using the adhesive, and place it in the center of your candlestick stand.
Then, do the same for the back of your attachment piece (once it’s dry). You’ll be able to pop them right on and off whenever you need to. It’s that easy!
Want your set to be even more versatile? These attachments also look adorable on:
- Desks (great teacher gifts!)
- Small entryway shelves
- In assisted living rooms or retirement homes for a little seasonal joy
Bonus Tips for Painting Your Attachment Pieces
If you’re using Titanium White under resin, make sure to seal it first!
Unsealed Titanium White can yellow over time due to a chemical reaction with the resin. Sealing it helps keep your whites bright and clean.
